Bruno Sammartino

Bruno Sammartino was born Bruno Leopoldo Francesco Sammartino on October 6, 1935, in Pizzoferrato, Abruzzo, Italy. Standing 5'10" (178 cm) and weighing 265 lbs (120 kg), he became one of professional wrestling's most dominant figures. Sammartino is best known for his legendary tenure as WWWF World Heavyweight Champion, which he held for over 2,800 days—one of the longest championship reigns in professional wrestling history. His incredible strength, technical wrestling ability, and charismatic presence made him a major draw throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Sammartino main-evented Madison Square Garden numerous times and became a cultural icon, helping to establish professional wrestling as mainstream entertainment in North America.
