Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the promotion was a cornerstone of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and a major competitor to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Jim Crockett Promotions would later evolve into World Championship Wrestling (WCW) following a sale to Turner Broadcasting System in 1988.
