Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the promotion was a cornerstone of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and rivaled only by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in terms of national reach and influence. Jim Crockett Promotions would later evolve into World Championship Wrestling (WCW) following a sale to Turner Broadcasting System in 1988.
